Charles Edward Eaton, poet andprofessor, was born in Winston-Salem, N.C.; received his B.A. degree from theUniversity of North Carolina in 1936; studied at Princeton; and received his M.A.degree from Harvard, where he worked with Robert Frost, who later recommended him tothe Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. Eaton served as United States Vice Consul in Brazil, 1942-1946, and as professor of creative writing at the University of North Carolina, 1946-1952. In 1950, he marriedIsabel Patterson of Pittsburgh. Eaton was a widely published and highly regardedwriter, who has won numerous poetry prizes and other honors. The collection consists of letters, photographs,catalogs, clippings, printed books, and other items relating to the work of artistsrepresented in the Charles Edward and Isabel Patterson Eaton Art Collection. Included arematerials from exhibits of works from the collection and materials relating toagents and other collectors.
